Today, the eyes of the entire world are fixed on Islamabad. During this six-week ceasefire, representatives from the United States and Iran will hold talks.The outcome of this meeting will not only ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz but also provide relief to American citizens from rising gas prices.

The American delegation is being led by Vice President JD Vance. Also present alongside the delegates are Steve Witkoff—a close associate of Trump—and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is a highly trusted confidant and a member of the Jewish faith.President has placed his trust in his inner circle; he has not left JD Vance to act alone.
3 .On the other hand, a 70-member delegation from Iran has arrived in Islamabad.
.The leader of the Iranian delegation is Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament—a figure known for his expertise in issuing threats to the US. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is regarded as an expert in technical diplomacy. Ali Akbar Ahmadian handles security and military affairs, while Abdolnaser Hemmati's role likely involves discussions regarding Iran's "frozen assets" and sanctions.
.This Iranian delegation is substantial in size and comprises experts in legal, nuclear, and Strait of Hormuz-related matters. This delegation could play a decisive role in the ongoing talks in Islamabad.
4. Iran's 3 Conditions That Could Prevent Negotiations from Succeeding
.To protect its proxy group, Hezbollah, Iran has issued a threat stating that it will withdraw from the ongoing negotiations unless a resolution is reached regarding the situation in Lebanon. Abbas Araqchi emphasized that any permanent settlement must include an end to the bombardment currently taking place in Lebanon. Tehran has accused Israel and the United States of violating the ceasefire.
This clearly indicates that Iran is building up pressure on the U.S. in order to protect Hezbollah.
5 Iran's Frozen Assets
.Iran is demanding the unfreezing of its dollar assets held in banks across the Middle East and other nations. This issue could emerge as the primary point of contention in the ongoing negotiations in Islamabad; however, the White House officially refuted this today, stating that the talks have not yet even begun.
The prospects of this demand from Iran being approved appear slim, as Trump has maintained his "America First" stance on Truth Social.
6 .Iran's Most Controversial Demand: A $2 Million Toll for the Strait of Hormuz
Iran's most preposterous and controversial demand is the imposition of a transit fee of $2 million per vessel on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This demand is so contentious that not only the United States, but virtually any country whose ships traverse the Strait of Hormuz would be displeased by it and unwilling to accept it. However, adopting a firm stance on the matter, President Trump wrote on Truth Social that the U.S. would never permit Iran to levy additional fees on ships passing through international waters. Trump asserted that the sole reason for his continued existence is to engage in negotiations—whether with Iran or without it. He further stated that the U.S. possesses the military might to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, and that "we can do this."
7 .Will gas prices in the US finally fall?

.For the average American citizen, the most pressing question is: when will gas prices finally drop? Since the onset of the conflict between the US and Iran, gas prices have witnessed a massive surge. As of today, April 12, 2026, prices have reached between $4.15 and $4.16 per gallon—a situation that is taking a heavy toll on the pockets of American citizens.
.Due to Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, global oil prices had previously soared to $120 per barrel; however, they have since fallen back to the $95 mark. The Strait of Hormuz, which handles 20% of the world's oil and gas supply, has remained more than 90% blocked for over a month now.
8 .The Scenarios Islamabad
.If a settlement is reached between the two parties and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic, experts predict that crude oil prices will drop to around $80 per barrel. Consequently, gasoline prices in the United States could decrease by 50 to 80 cents per gallon. This would undoubtedly provide some relief to the average citizen.
9 .If the ongoing talks in Islamabad fail...
.If negotiations fail—and if the United States employs military force to open the Strait of Hormuz—gas prices in the U.S. will rise once again, potentially reaching $5.00 per gallon or even higher. This would be a matter of concern for American citizens and would place a heavy burden on their wallets.

.I believe that the United States will never be willing to fulfill the three contentious demands put forward by Iran. Furthermore, Iran will make every effort to protect its proxy group, Hezbollah.

hold significant influence in Israel and its business sector; moreover, Jared himself is Jewish—a fact that makes the chances of finding any permanent solution highly unlikely.
